![]() | The entry of Williams, a dental equipment company, into the tackle industry came under unusual circumstances. The inspiration for one of Canada's most popular lures, the Williams Wabler, dates back to the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1800's. A young boy reported that a huge trout had snatched a spoon which he had dropped overboard at boatside. Upon hearing the fish tale, Cameron Williams and his son, Bud, experimented with silver-plated lures on their own - with remarkable success. Before long, they were silver plating lures for friends and anglers who wanted to share in that fishing success. Soon afterwards, the tackle division of the Williams company was born in 1932. |
| The principal reason for the lure's tremendous success is its plated surface - either in pure gold or silver - which flashes regardless of water conditions or depth. Another unique feature is the anti-spin rib or keel stamped along the length of the lure. The stabilizer prevents the lure from rotating and imparts a darting action that drives fish wild. Unlike many other lures, Williams Wablers work equally well at a wide range of trolling speeds. | |
| Dedicated to maintaining the Williams tradition of quality, the fishing tackle division of Williams was acquired by Brecks International in 1989. Today, Williams lures continue to provide exciting fishing worldwide, for every species of sportfish. The Williams lure lineup also includes the Whitefish, Trophy II, Dartee, and Thinfish. |
