for Ontario Fly-in Fishing Camps

As a matter of information, the criteria used for selecting outfitters / camps for the "Top 5" lists are provided below. Evaluations are based on responses and feedback from lodge guests via e-mail to the website and, secondly, on the impressions and opinions of the OF staff made subsequent to on-site visits to the camps between 1988 and 2003.

Based on the on-site visit requirement, not all Northern Ontario fly-in lodges have been been included for consideration. Some criteria do not apply to all lodges.

Selection Criteria - Categories & Standards

  1. Pre-reservation communication & information services

  2. ready access to lodge personnel via phone, fax, e-mail
  3. prompt response to inquiries forwarded via e-mail, fax or post
  4. immediate mailing of brochure, newsletter, rate sheet, etc. upon request
  5. provision of references
  6. availability of video
  7. references to media presentations (TV, magazine articles)
  8. attendance at sportshows, travel / vacation shows, etc.
  9. website / homepage posting on InterNet
  10. availability of info & packages through "agencies"

  12. Trip / travel arrangements

    • provision of highway map / instructions
    • identification of flight connections to nearest community or airbase
    • airport / flight navigation information for private aircraft
    • reliable, scheduled air service to & from lodge
    • ground & air transfers as necessary
    • proper roadside signage to airbase
    • considerate and proper handling of baggage and fishing gear
    • convenient waiting room (flight delays)
    • use of required passenger flight log and cargo manifest
    • thorough explanation of aircraft safety features & procedures
