Bass Tactics

Strategies for north-country bass require two basic modifications of more traditional bass tactics. Because northern lakes are usually clearer and colder than more southerly lakes, presentations must be smaller and slower - finesse fishing as it is oftentimes called.

North Country Bassin' Tips

  • Switch to lighter, lo-vis line.
  • Eliminiate terminal tackle.
  • Downsize baits a bit.
  • Choose natural-finish lures.
  • Slow down presentations.
  • Present baits vertically.
  • Fish cover near deep water.
  • Fish a variety of depths.
  • Use live bait.
