Bassin' North of 60

Bass HotSpots

The semi-remote Kecil Lake chain offer consistent smallmouth bass fishing while Lake Muskosung offers 2-species bassin' on a roadside lake. From Sudbury and Elliot Lake, outpost camp enthusiasts can fly in to great smallmouth lakes for fast and exciting action.

The big lakes in the Temagami region (Obabika, Temagami, Lady Evelyn, Wanapitei, Onaping, Panache) have repeatedly proven their potential for trophy fish. As far north as Gogama, Temagami, even Kirkland Lake, outfitters offer fly-in, boat-in, walk-in or canoe-in back lakes bassin'.

Highway 60 represents the accepted boundary between north and south - and the basis of this bassin' overview. The interior lakes of Algonquin Provincial Park, while difficult to access, provide unforgettable smallmouth bass fishing, sheer numbers and bass of trophy proportions.

In Ontario's Near North, the corridor between Hwy. # 522 and Hwy. # 124 is dotted with scores of great bass lakes. Along Hwy. 69 between Parry Sound and Sudbury are dozens of roadside lakes that can be pretty distracting to a bass angler. The Bustard Islands out from the French, Pickerel and Key Rivers, enjoy a well-deserved reputation for exceptional smallmouth bass angling.

Some of Ontario's best north-country bass fishing can be found at sprawling Lake of the Woods and the smallmouth fishing of Quetico Provincial Park's interior lakes is world-class. So many lakes; so little time.
