Fly-in Bass Camps
Mini / Tent Camps

Remote bass camps are as diverse as the lakes on which they are situated. Some offer mini- / tent camps for canoeists, hikers, back-to-basics types or anglers "in" on a day trip. These sites have either a prepared campsite or wooden platform for tenters and overnighters. Other than a picnic table, fire pit and (possibly) an outhouse, there are few amenities.

Mini-camps will be equipped with cartopper-sized aluminum boats, usually fitted with small (2 to 6 HP) outboard motors. Each party is responsible for its own tent, camping and cooking equipment, fishing tackle, personal effects, etc.

Outpost Camps

Most of Ontario's remote bass camps are the more typical outpost cabin, complete with propane appliances (lights, fridge, stove), bunk-style beds with foam mattresses, table and chairs, a wood stove for heat, a kitchen counter with sink (but no running water), and an outhouse. Outpost camps accommodate two to ten anglers, but years of experience have repeatedly demonstrated that on small lakes, smaller groups are more comfortable and the fishing is less crowded.
At all fly-in outpost camps, outfitters provide boats (one for each pair of anglers), motors and fuel for bass fishing patrons. Food and beverages are the responsibility of each fishing party, as are bedding, fishing tackle, outdoor and personal gear.
Lodges (HK / AP)

One fly-in outfitter offers lodge accommodations to anglers looking to "rough it" in relative comfort. Also available at these camps are guides, shore lunches, indoor plumbing, showers, hydro and more.

The lodges are situated on larger lakes or river systems that can withstand the increased fishing pressure brought to bear by more anglers. For diversity and solitude, packages offer side trips to back lakes accessible by boat, canoe or footpath. These seldom-fished lakes offer fast and consistent fishing for smallmouth and / or largemouth bass.
Fly-in Back Lakes

Ontario's fly-in bass camps are typically located on small, rocky, clear-water lakes with rugged shorelines pocked with small, soft-bottomed, weed-lined bays, many of which have downed trees, stumps and sunken timber. Near-shore breaklines fall quickly to 8 to 12-foot depths and hard bottoms that support little in the way of weed growth.
