There is nothing in Ontario sportfishing that compares to a fly-in fishing trip to a remote outpost. As with most vacations, good planning and thorough preparation are paramount to a successful, trouble-free angling adventure. Once you're there, here's how to make sure the outpost camp runs like clockwork ! | |
A good trip starts and ends with plans that are prepared in detail and fully realized, so make up the duty roster playing to each person's interests and abilities. To get a sense of the many facets of outpost camp life, look through the necessary planning and preparations that will guarantee a successful fly-in trip - especially if it's your first (and even if it's not). | ![]() |

If your group is more leisure minded than fishing oriented, and especially if the weather turns foul, appoint a camp social convenor. Just a few unstructured hours inside can trigger "cabin fever" and any pleasant distraction will buoy spirits. Cleaning up the cabin won't. Plans could include a "pool" for the biggest, most, oddest, planned partner exchanges each day, a casting competition, a fish cleaning clinic, card games, campfire rounds (jokes, fishtales, exploits, battle scars, etc.), an afternoon pike derby, a team competition, etc. What the heck - bet a few bucks on the outcomes. |
