Fly-in Day Trips

Throughout Southern Ontario, even well into Northern Ontario, yet another small group of tourism operators offer fly-in day trips for bass enthusiasts. A fly-in fishing day trip can provide some great bass fishing and shore lunch.
Typically, the cost of a fly-in day trip for 2 anglers compares favourably to the cost of a day aboard a charter boat or with a guide. That's where the similarities end. On a fly-in, you are on your own once the plane leaves, although guides are sometimes available - at additional cost. Usually, the fishing is so consistent that finding and catching fish is seldom a problem. However, fly-in day trips are best for anglers with some experience on small, unfamiliar lakes and in the operation of small boats / motors.
If a shore lunch is not a priority, pack a hearty lunch and plenty of cold drinks. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a cap, camera, film, insect repellent, a variety of bass tackle, and an extra rod & reel combo.

Before the plane leaves, get the boat in the water and the motor running. Be sure you have the MNR's safety requirements - fitted PFDs, anchor & rope, oars or paddles, bailing can, sounding device, throwing line & buoy.

The time spent at a fly-in site will depend on the flying schedule of the operator, weather and distance considerations, and / or other arrangements made beforehand with the outfitter. Usually, there's plenty of time for fishing, shore lunch and a little exploring.
