Review of: 77 Great Fish of North America
By Flavio Gomes

Angling may be a personal quest to satisfy what is possibly… the insatiable and FISH, 77 Great Fish of North America by Dean Travis Clark and Flick Ford, is a wonderful alternative to when the hassles of modern life inhibit this noble pursuit.
Not your typical angling technician's journal, FISH is offered in an oversized coffee table format containing some of the most spectacular illustrations this reviewer has ever seen. Each portrait is underscored by descriptive essays and entertaining anecdotes with enough technical know-how to give beginners an edge but doesn't quite raise a veteran's brow.
Among the more common species like Trout and Bass, FISH includes a plethora of saltwater specimens which should incite inland anglers into marking their calendars for their next visit to the coastline.
Additionally, FISH also pays homage to those fish that were most likely to first capture the hearts and minds of our youth, the sunfish family. It was this very species that introduced me to a lifelong pursuit of fishing. I can clearly recall my first experience. My uncle had kept a few sunfish in an old antique bathtub behind the barn. We were to go fishing in morning and not having the slightest clue I asked my cousin to give me some pointers. He suggested that we catch one of my uncle's sunfish! Off we went to the tub. After tying on a hook to a short length of monofilament and molding a small piece of bread on the business end, he handed me the rig and told me to drop it in… Instantly my bait was targeted and that first jolt of a fish take was absolutely sensational that unlocked a fascination that I've never quiet been able to match with any other sporting endeavour.
The experiences of an avid angler can be powerfully vivid. Memories of cold-water streams, rocky shorelines and rugged landscapes tend to be etched deeply in the mind. I believe FISH has accomplished what the author and artist setout to do…entertain, inform and to bring us back to that indescribable sensation of connecting with living underwater energy.
FISH, A delightful read and a stunning visual experience.
